State School Superintendent Proclaims FFA Week in Wisconsin

From Wisconsin Ag Connection – 2/18/2013

Wisconsin’s top public education official is giving a nod of support to the blue-and-gold by declaring this week as FFA week.

“I, Tony Evers, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, do hereby proclaim February 16-23, 2013, as FFA Week in the State of Wisconsin, and I commend this observation to all citizens,” he said.

The declaration went on to say that FFA and agriculture education provide a strong foundation for the youth in America and the future of the food, fiber, and natural resources systems and that FFA promotes premier leadership, personal growth and career success among its members.

State FFA Director Cheryl Zimmerman says there were over 19,000 FFA members in Wisconsin as of this past year–the largest number in over two decades. FFA membership on the national level is also up, according to Zimmerman.

Meanwhile, FFA chapters around the state will be involved in a range of activities and events during the week.

National FFA Week is held annually during the same week as George Washington’s birthday, who himself was a life-long farmer and leader of our nation. The event was developed to tie together all the promotional efforts of individual FFA chapters and high school agriculture programs.
