Gillett FFA Member Attends Washington Leadership Conference

Gillett FFA member, Jacob Timm, attended the Washington Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. on July 14th-19th 2015. More than 2,100 members from all corners of the United States attended this conference over the seven week span.
“Students who attend the Washington Leadership Conference learn their purpose, how to value people, how take action and the importance of serving others,” National FFA Organization CEO Dr. Dwight Armstrong said. “They leave with the knowledge and the confidence to act in ways that help their schools, communities and their country.”
Jacob describes his experience as astonishing while learning how to make a difference in his community that can easily make a change in the world.
“Being the only one from Gillett  attending,” said Timm “was definitely a new experience but made me expand my comfort zone  and make new friends along the way.” He also notes that it was a great opportunity to be able  to connect and network with other students from all over the United States while exploring all of what the nation’s capitol had to offer.
Jacob would like to thank the Wisconsin FFA Alumni Association and Section 8 of the Wisconsin FFA Alumni for their scholarships that he was awarded.

Gillett FFA Members Target Success, Take Action at the 86th Wisconsin FFA Convention

Madison, WI – The Gillett FFA celebrated 86 years of premier leadership, personal growth and career success at the Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison, June 15-18. The convention attracts over 3,000 members, advisors, parents, alumni and sponsors to celebrate their year’s success and support for students involved in agricultural education.

Gillett FFA members Ashley B., Kalea B., Hanna B., Elizabeth K., Samantha K. Danielle T. and Jacob T. attended the convention.

Danielle T. was recognized for receiving a gold rating on her equine production-placement supervised agricultural experience (SAE) program.

Jacob T. was recognized on stage for receiving a Washington Leadership Conference scholarship from the Wisconsin FFA Alumni. Jacob also was named as  a national delegate to travel to the national convention with the state FFA officer team. Delegates are responsible for making recommendations for one of the nine national committees, attending convention business sessions, and voting on key issues that will guide the organization into the future.

Sarah N. submitted a two-dimensional print of a cow to the state agricultural artwork competition.

Members heard inspirational messages from keynote speakers including: Kristen Schmidt, National FFA Central Region Vice President; Barrett Keene, Dr. Jermaine Davis, and Alison Wedig, State FFA President. Students have targeted success for agriculture through their dedication to grow in leadership skills and knowledge of agriculture. This week is a celebration of the student success and recognition of FFA activities conducted across the entire state of Wisconsin.

Hanna Brock and Jacob Timm served as state delegates. They participated in committee meetings, voted on constitutional amendments and voted for the sectional officer.

“Students enrolled in agricultural education in Wisconsin schools who are members of the FFA have a fantastic opportunity for leadership and career development,” said Wisconsin FFA Executive Director Cheryl Zimmerman. “The Wisconsin FFA Convention is our opportunity to recognize the importance of the education of our society about agriculture and the achievement of young people who are the future leaders of the agriculture industry.

The Wisconsin Association of FFA is a leading student organizations due to the efforts of more than 19,000 students across the state. With a focus on premier leadership, personal growth and career success, students’ FFA activities complement agricultural classroom instruction by giving them an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge while gaining real-world experience. Gillett FFA Recognizes Members at Annual Banquet

GILLETT – The Gillett FFA hosted the annual banquet on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Romy’s Holiday Inn. Hallie Kopczynski, 2015 Wisconsin FFA Section 8 Vice President was the keynote speaker.

Josh Yonker, Gillett FFA Alumni President, gave greetings on behalf of the alumni.

The Discovery Degree was bestowed to the following middle school members who have been active and taken an agriculture class: Ashley B., Summer C., Samantha K., Annie K., Sydney Y., Justin E., Jerika H., Wyatt H., and Brice W. Jerika H. was named as the recipient of the Outstanding Middle School Member Award.

The Greenhand Degree was given to 15 first year high school members: Noah B., Kalea B., Hanna B., Lauren H. , Elizabeth K., Evan R., Wezley S., Mark V., Reid W., Taylor Y., Alex Y. , Monica I., Sarah N., Mark F., and Leeland K.. Hanna B. and Evan R. were recognized as the recipient of the Star Greenhand Award, recognizing there achievement as a first year member.

High school members who have received the Greenhand Degree and continue to go above and beyond in participation were presented with the Chapter Degree. Erin B., Savannah H., Victoria L., Crystal M., Morgan L., Taylor K., and Maddy W. were recognized as Chapter Degree recipients.

The following members were recognized as the top FFA member in their class based on grade point average: Alex Y., freshman; Erin B., sophomore; Jacob T., junior; Taylor K. and Maddy W., seniors.

Gillett FFA members were active in several career development events (CDE) this year. The following member participated in the district speaking contests: Jacob T., discussion meet. There were also four members that competed in additional CDE contests. The dairy cattle evaluation team included Lauren H., Elizabeth K. and, Maddy W. Jacob T.  competed in agronomy.

Danielle T. and Jacob T. completed an extensive application to submit to the state level. Danielle T. received a gold rating and will be recognized at the Wisconsin FFA Convention in June.

Hanna B. was named Top Salesperson. Jacob T. received second place and Aubrey D. placed third in fundraising sales that help support the Gillett FFA Chapter and activities.

Maddy Wilbur was named the 2015 DeKalb Award Winner. This award is given annually to a senior member that exemplifies agricultural advocacy, hard work and commitment.

The retiring officers were of Jacob Timm, president; Hanna Brock, vice president;Thomas Nauke, secretary; Morgan Lisowe, treasurer; Evan Rank, reporter. They were thanked for their year of dedication to the chapter.
